This year SPEAR is competing in the 8th Annual NYU Ortho Team Challenge! An intense day of CrossFit-style competition will be held at Reebok CrossFit 5th Ave on May 18, 2014 at 9am, benefiting the MDA Summer Camp!
In this entry, SPEAR’s Ortho Team Captain and 16th Street Physical Therapist, Jason Kang, writes about why SPEAR chose to compete this year and how the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s cause is passionately shared by everyone at SPEAR.

SPEAR Physical Therapy took a big interest in taking part in this Muscular Dystrophy Association event because we understand how important movement is to a person.
The MDA’s mission of research to find treatments and cures for neuromuscular related diseases, supporting MDA families, and working with communities tie into our own values of service and passion for the welfare of others.
Whether deficits in movement is sport/recreational related or neuromuscular, the end goal is to help the individual reach their full potential. We treat each individual as a whole to find the root of the problem and to address all of the needs of the individual.
The MDA summer camp allows for an individual with a neuromuscular disorder to have a week of fun and safe outdoor experiences while providing an environment where “physical disabilities are the norm not the exception.”
